Am I Old Fashioned

Am I Old Fashioned?

Yes I probably am old fashioned! I am in my early 40s and grew up without a mobile phone. Even a computer was in the early stages and the internet was
not even a dream away let alone a reality. If you wanted to see a friend you had to make the effort to go and see them. We had one land line phone in the
hallway with no privacy. If you wanted to keep in touch with a friend overseas you wrote a letter and then waited months for the letter to be received,
your friend to reply and wait for the post to arrive.

It was awesome! No mobile meant that you were disconnected and could not be reached. When you make plans with friends we all turned up, at the right place,
at the right time. There was no texting excuses or running late and it worked.

Don’t get me wrong, I love technology and being able to text, call or be in touch with friends near or on the other side of the world. But nothing beats
treating a friend in the old fashioned way.

  • Instead of texting, hand write a note.
  • Get off Facebook and drop in a see your friend.
  • Make some biscuits to take to a friend, just to say that you were thinking of them.
  • Stop texting back and forth and actually call and speak to
    your friends, especially when you are arranging plans and a 2 minute call with save you numerous texts.
  • Be creative! 

Sometimes if I know I won’t see my friends for a while I will text and simply say that I am thinking of them.

It is really easy to be nice and do a kind gesture. I challenge you to do one thing today that will make a friend smile. Reach out and treat your friend
to a nice gesture from the heart.

Self-care is NOT Selfish

Only you have control over your thoughts and only you have control over your feelings. So you can choose to stew on an event, you can worry whether you
said the ‘right’ words to a friend, you can become anxious because you feel stressed, but all these thoughts and feelings do not serve you well. 

When I go to sleep at night I run though a meditation to disconnect for everything that happened during the day. Keeping my brain occupied with that I
‘could’ and ‘should’ have done is a waste of time and energy.

I relish the fact that I am lying down. I enjoy my comfy sheets. I savour the darkness as this is time to fully and completely relax. Occasionally the
kids wake me up in the night if they don’t feel well but as they are teenagers now that is rare. So I allow myself to completely switch off, sleep
and let my body rejuvenate and mind disconnect.

I am writing this as I sit at a Buddhist temple in the meditation room. I have come here today which is about half an hour from my home. It is in the mountains
and all I can hear is the sound of insects and see the beautiful greenery that surrounds me.

It might seem selfish to run away here for the day, remove myself from social media, emails and all other responsibilities I have and yet it is the opposite.
I am here to recharge my batteries. The washing can wait, the housework will still be there when I get home, my mobile is on so I can be contacted
but I am choosing to only look at my phone a few times today.

This is the most selfless thing I can do. My head is clear. I am breathing in the forest smells. I can sit anywhere and have a cup of tea without being
disturbed. This is bliss.

Not only will I benefit this experience right now, I will carry this calm feeling home with me. So what that means is that I will be a better person when
I get home. More relaxed, more present and generally a happier person. When my batteries are topped up I have more to give, whether it’s my time or
my patience, I will have more to give.

Here is your mission, tonight when you go to bed spend no more than 5 minutes thinking of at least one time during the day that you could and should have
done something for yourself. I could be as simple as making a cup of tea and enjoying it, while you were on your way to work could you have stopped
thinking of all the things you need to do and just allowed yourself to stop thinking.

You must take care of yourself inside and out, in your heart and in your heart or you will hit a brick wall and burn out. Self care is self preservation.

I wish you the best night sleep and promise me that you will do just one thing tomorrow for yourself.

Affirmations DON’T Work!

My husband reminds me often to take my own advice. Sometimes I don’t really want to hear that ‘useful’ reminder. I am human and get caught up on my thoughts,
I allow my mind to keep thinking because then I feel that I am achieving.

  • How can I manifest when I don’t focus on what you want?
  • I need to say affirmations to keep my monkey mind busy with a task.
  • I must focus on solutions and not the problems.
  • Make sure I get enough exercise done during the day so that I sleep well that night.
  • If I want to achieve a goal I have to work towards it, even just one little task completed each day is a step in the right direction.
  • Was I present with my kids this morning before they went to school? Did I give them a hug and kiss and tell them I love them? Yes even though they
    are teenagers I still hug them!
  • Must hang the washing out …. plan for dinner…
  • I must write my weekly blogs, opps don’t’ forget the to-do-list I wrote last night that I must plough through today …… 

These are just some of the thoughts buzzing round in my head and the more I think, the more I am blocking myself off from allowing and being present. Solutions
do not come when my mind is in chaos.

Right now affirmations are not going to work and they will stress me out trying to figure out what the best affirmation I should use today! More dilemmas
and more stress.

This scenario probably sounds all too familiar.

  • Am I ‘trying’ too hard?
  • Did I see my sign today?
  • Am I being mindful and concentrated on taking 3 deep breaths?
  • Did I set my intentions for the day?
  • Did I put feelings into my manifesting
  • Yikes, more unhelpful busy thoughts keep popping into my mind ….

My solutions was to do none of the above, not to plan, not to say affirmations, not to start work but to remove myself totally from any distractions.

I left my mobile at home. I left the dirty dishes. I left the washing in the machine. I didn’t send the emails I need to. I picked up my kayak and left
for a half an hour recharge. I decided the best way to get anything done today was to look after myself first.

The reasons I kayak are thanks to Esther Hicks and this is my summary of her message. She uses the analogy that life is like rafting down a river. You
can cling to the river bank holding onto to the side, holding onto beliefs and your current situation. You can also exhaust yourself paddling upstream
against the current and getting nowhere. But the relief you are searching for is a downstream thought. You have to let go of the oars and trust that
your desires are downstream and stop fighting. Downstream is where you are wishing to be and the only way to get there is to be present and enjoy the
ride. The river is so pretty surrounded by trees and the sound of nature and the water is energizing.

When you breathe in the salt air you are breathing in energy. When you stop rowing you are allowing the journey of life to present itself. The only way
to get though my day and to-do-list is to approach it from a calm place. Certainly not from chaos!

I found my calm. I reminded myself that all I needed to do right them was to not say any affirmations because they don’t work. I stopped thinking. I reconnected
with my heart and allowed myself to actually listen to my feelings. I connected my mind, body and spirit and cleared my mind totally.

Feelings are energy. Everything is energy.

My calm cue sign message is because I am a visual not audio person. I would prefer to read than watch a movie. I can copy type from text and not from audio.
My sign is to remind me to see past my sign, get out of my head and connect with my feelings.

I paddle in my kayak because it reinforces the analogy that I need to let go of the paddles. It’s ok to float and be present with no thoughts. I reconnect
with nature. I allow the space of the universe to be present and get out of my head. FEEL not think!

As I wrote in this blog Testing your sign – Is it real? I have been testing the calm cue sign of a feather just before launching my second book free to be me,
and to even my amazement feathers have appeared to confirm my desires, I know I am on track.

Yesterday I was outside exercising, I was feeling great and I did spend the 20 minutes saying the same affirmation reinforcing the positive energy with
movement and music. I had a brief thought wondering if it was helping and wondering how my day was going to go and a beautiful white feather drifted
in front of my and softly floated to the ground. This made me laugh out loud …. Taking my own advice I said thank you to the universe. I smiled
first, then breathed deeply and was even more invigorated.

Last night a friend come over for dinner and he helped my with a few website issues I was having. We were a few hours into the task, it was still 30 degrees
at 9pm so I had the fan on in my office. The door was shut to keep the noise down and allow us to focus.

I had a wish list of tasks I wanted to complete and we prioritized what was achievable that night. What small wins could we have and quick solutions so
that I could launch. Every time I crossed tasks off my list I was excited and yet when we started on the next task I tried not to get anxious that
time was ticking, it was getting later in the night and could we resolve them.

Out of the corner of my eye I saw a speck floating around the room. It was like a white ball of fluff so I didn’t say anything because I had only vacuum
recently but was worried it was dust. I caught another glimpse and even to my surprise in a closed room with a fly screen on the window – it was a
white FEATHER. I asked my friend if he could see it, we both looked at each other in amazement. My message works! Just as we laughed and said “Wow,
that was spooky” it gracefully slipped out the crack under the door.

We both sat there in silence for a while enjoying the confirmation that I was on track and that my message is ready to share.

THANK YOU universe for the confirmations. Your calm cue sign is about a feeling not a thought.

Ladybug Calm Cue Sign

When you are in the flow of spiritual awakening and enlightenment the universe gives you feedback and it’s up to you to take notice. The road signs are
there to show you the way. You wouldn’t drive with your eyes shut, so why go through your day with your eyes shut?

The universe gives you hint and directions, it’s up to you to take notice!

Your calm cue sign is a visual reminder to be more aware, quieten your mind, be in the present moment, and live in the NOW. The present is a gift that
is why it is a ‘present’.



One second …. that is all it takes to stop the random chaos of your thoughts to drastically change the outcome.

Even being present for a few second is mindfulness and stops the chaos, so when you stop thinking and become aware you are already using a powerful
mindful meditation technique. If you understand statistics and probability theory, or if you have a strong mathematical background, this can be
helpful since you will understand the likelihood of seeing your calm cue sign. When you buy a new car, you become more aware of the model/colour
you have purchased and you will begin to notice similar cars on the road. You are increasing your awareness and looking closer at what is around
you.

  • A ladybug brings the gifts of renewal and regeneration.
  • If a ladybug lands on your finger, let it be, make a wish when it fly’s away

What is the Chaos Theory

Here is the connection between coincidences, synchronicity and the chaos theory, otherwise known as the butterfly effect.

Clouds are not ovals. Mountains are not cones. Birds are not M’s in the sky. Nature exhibits a different level of complexity and the inherent unpredictability
in the behaviour of a complex natural system.

Chaos theory is a contradiction and a science of predicting the behaviour of unpredictable systems. It is a mathematical toolkit to see an order in
the sea of chaos. Your sign is a window into the complex working of nature, energy and the universe.

It is fascinating that order and chaos are not opposed and are a wonderful mix from the outside to appear unpredictable and yet the inner working are
an orderly deterministic set of equations ticking like clockwork.

Interesting also is the definition of deterministic is the belief that all events are caused by things that happened before them and that people have
no real ability to make choices or control what happens.

A tiny variation, never repeated, vastly affect the outcome. When you see your sign and stop for one second this is a tiny variation that will vastly
affect the outcome.



Order on a small scale can look like chaos on a larger scale. Let me explain this further…

Edward Lorenz in 1961 was a meteorologist trying, with the computer technology available at the time, to accurately predict the weather. He inputted
a set of number, which was the current weather, so that he could predict the weather a few minutes in advance.

The computer would produce long term forecasts by entering the data into the computer over and over again. He could accurately minute by minute forecast
the weather which then lead to days and weeks.

The epiphany came one day when he had entered the figures from his print out 0.506 but realised the computer was calculating it by 0.506127. This meant
that the tiny error, the difference of one part in a thousand, gave a drastically different prediction and became the seed of chaos.

In systems that behave predictably only produced small effects. Lorenz’s equations were causing errors to steadily grow over time. The tiny errors
would not stay tiny but increase in size perpetuating into error producing different results. Repeat this again and again and the effect is extraordinary.

Lorenz came up with the butterfly effect analogy. A butterfly can flap its wings appearing to be random chaos and yet cause a hurricane half way round
the world.

The smallest differences are producing large effects. What first appears to be random behaviour is not random because of a slight, subtle and almost
undetectable change. The tiny differences stack up.

The solar system is a chaotic system. While the theory of gravity could predict two plants orbiting under their mutual attraction, add a third plant
in the mix and the equation became unsolvable. As the plants dance it is clear that chaos plays a part and has a large influence on the trajectories
of asteroids.

Fighter jets have unlocked the hidden structure of a chaotic system with the help of maths. Aeroplanes rely on stability so that small turbulent nudges
don’t push it off the flight path. Fighter pilots on the other hand need their planes to make rapid changes with minimal effort. They achieve greater
manoeuvrability by virtue of being aerodynamically unstable where a slight nudge drastically alters their flightpath.

Unlocking the hidden structure of a chaotic system is in determining its preferred set of behaviours. Mathematicians call this the attractor.

Ian Stewart used this analogy to describe the attractor. Take a ping-pong ball and drop it over the ocean, it will fall into the water. Release the
ball under the water and it will rise to the surface. The attractor is the water and the ball will always sit on the surface even after being hit
by a wave, it will return to the surface.

We can’t predict how the ping-pong will respond exactly second by second but by knowing the attractor we can see a pattern in the chaos.

You are the attractor. Keep coming back to you. Your feelings, your energy, your source. A tiny change in the way you respond instead of react will
drastically affect the outcome.

The millions of cells that contract in just the right sequence that makes up your heart beat explain this behaviour. Your heart beat is a chaotic system
constantly contracting and relaxing, the millions of cells must work in synchronicity, at just the right time to product the beat. When you heart
races, for example, it send intricate details to the brain to indicate that you are in danger.

Your heart is chaotic and yet in an intricate state of synchronicity.

When you feel stressed you heart works harder and your brain switches to survival mode. Fight or flight response is triggered. Once you have practiced
chaos to calm when you see your sign, you are able to stop, switch off the brain triggers, make one small slight change and this will bring you
back to being centered. Your brain will slow, even for a split second and you will see the pattern in the chaos and drastically effect the outcome.
